What Is It?

What Is It?
July 08, 2011 10:50AM
I found this mushroom growing in my south-facing front yard this morning after a hard rain last night. I live in SE Denver in the city proper. It's about five feet from the trunk of a young maple tree, about 5 inches long, and the stem is a little over an inch in circumference. The unerputed one (I'm assuming that's what it is) is an inch and a half in diameter. I tried to compare it to the mushroom id gallery, but I couldn't find anything with such a small crown.

Thanks for the help! I'm not a mushroom eater, so harvesting it isn't a question. I just want to know what it is. smiling smiley

Oh, I should add. There used to be an aspen in the yard too, so it could also be growing on an old runner.

And no, this is not a photoshop. That's really what it looks like, which is why I'm curious about the species.

Looks like one to me too. The one picture shows the stinkhorn egg.
