Lactarius barrowsii

Habitat

Ponderosa pine forest in dryer areas. Southern Colorado. Found in the same areas as Boletus barrowsii, Hypomyces lactiflourum and Russula decolorans. 7000 - 9000ft in elevation.

Description

This mushroom is better known from New Mexico. It was named after Chuck Barrows like Boletus barrowsii. This mushroom is very similar and closely related to Lactarius deliciosus only paler in color. It is more pinkish cream colored rather than orange. Stains blue when broken or scraped. It is a bit smaller than L. deliciosus too.
