Galerina marginata
(Deadly Galerina)
Habitat
High elevation Spruce forest.
Description
Generally grows on dead rotting logs but sometimes can be found on the ground growing from sticks and forest debris. This is a good example of why to be cautious with LBM's (Little Brown Mushrooms). Any LBM's growing from wood should generally be avoided. Beginners could be easily confuse these with edible mushrooms such as Flammulina populicola or Honey Mushrooms (Armillaria solidipes). Galerina have rusty brown spores while Flammulina and Armillaria species have white spores.
