Hypomyces luteovirens

Hypomyces luteovirens
(Green Lobster)

Habitat

These were found with Russulas growing under Douglas Fir and Aspen around 9000ft.

Description

This one is closely related to the lobster mushroom. It is a parasite on certain Russula species. Note the third photo with the Russula found next to it believed to be Russula decolorans or simliar. It's rare compared to the lobster mushroom. I've heard of some people eating it but little is known about its edibility. It likely is however as it appears to parasitize edible Russula species.
