Amanitas are one of the most poisonous families of mushrooms. They are responsible for more deaths than any other mushrooms. There are some which are considered edible, but they are typically avoided because they often resemble extremely poisonous look-a-likes.
Amanitas begin as an egg which then opens forming a cup or volva at the base of the stem. One of the key features for identification. They contain white gills and spores.
